rs puram: Rs Puram Deaf School To Be Made Residential Facility | Coimbatore News

Coimbatore: The city corporation will convert the RS Puram deaf and dumb school into a residential school for Class XI and Class XII students with modern amenities. The residential school will house 280 students, who will be selected based on their Class X marks, from across the state.
The corporation was forced to make the decision as the deaf and dumb school has 30 classrooms, but only for a handful of students. “There were 22 students in the school in the last academic year. Out of them, 10 had appeared in Class X board exams, so they will move to other schools this year. Out of the remaining 12, four had dropped out. The eight remaining students will be shifted to schools nearby, ”said city corporation’s education parks and playgrounds committee chairperson Malathi Nagaraj.
A corporation official said the proposed residential school will accommodate toppers from across the state and provide special coaching for them to crack entrance examinations such as CAT, JEE and NEET. It will have the best amenities, including a quality playground, smart classrooms and a swimming pool, to match private residential schools. 6.5 crore has been allocated for the purpose, the official said.
“The project was conceived after the chief minister’s recent visit to smart schools in New Delhi. This facility would be the first of its kind in the state and it will help Class X toppers to get quality education to secure admission in top institutions in the country. Coaching would be provided by drawing top teachers, ”the official added.
Malathi Nagaraj said the facility would come up under the Namakku Naame scheme, wherein 33% of the contribution would be made by private donors and CSR funds while the rest would be footed by the state government. Construction of additional buildings and other facilities will begin soon.
