Huddersfield Town have already announced several first-team departures and their first summer signing, and a look at their current best starting lineup for the opening day on the season on the weekend of 30th July.
Player of the year Lee Nicholls looks set to continue as Town’s undisputed number one goalkeeper and he has a reliable defensive line ahead of him despite the departures of Levi Colwill and Naby Sarr.
Tom Lees and Matty Pearson were both superb last season, Rarmani Edmonds-Green offers competition after his excellent loan spell at Rotherham, and the returning Will Boyle offers a left-footed option should Carlos Corberan prefer a left-footer or a back three. Jonathan Hogg and Ollie Turton are both capable of playing in a back three, too.

The four full-back options from last season remain in situ in the form of Pipa, Turton, Harry Toffolo and Josh Ruffels; while the three favoured central midfielders – Hogg, Jonathan Hogg and Lewis O’Brien – could continue in their starting berths in a three-man midfield.
That said, midfield looks like an area where Town needs more strength in depth even disregarding the speculation over O’Brien’s future. Duane Holmes and Scott High the only senior central midfielders in reserve and Holmes generally preferred in more attacking areas.
There are plenty of options on the wings with Holmes, Sorba Thomas and Josh Koroma all well capable of starting, with Aaron Rowe and Rolando Aarons both pushing for a place. There is however no real number 10 besides Holmes with Danel Sinani returning to Norwich City after his loan.
Danny Ward and Jordan Rhodes are the only recognized strikers in the first-team squad as it stands with Fraizer Campbell set to leave at the end of his contract. An up-and-coming third striker could be a useful addition to the squad unless the club feel Kieran Phillips is up to stepping back into first-team duties.
Best Huddersfield Town starting lineup as it stands: (4-3-3): Lee Nicholls; Pipa, Tom Lees, Matty Pearson, Harry Toffolo; Jon Russell, Jonathan Hogg, Lewis O’Brien; Sorba Thomas, Danny Ward, Duane Holmes.
Subs: Ryan Schofield, Will Boyle, Josh Ruffels, Ollie Turton, Scott High, Josh Koroma, Jordan Rhodes.
Squad players with league appearances for Town: Romoney Crichlow, Rarmani Edmonds-Green; Ben Jackson; Matty Daly, Brahima Diarra; Rolando Aarons, Pat Jones, Aaron Rowe; Kieran Phillips.
Other B team options include: Nicholas Bilokapic; Loick Ayina; Brodie Spencer, Jaheim Headley; Josh Austerfield, Etienne Camara; Danny Grant.
