BBC Escape to the Country: Devon properties snubbed for stunning Cornwall home

BBC’s Escape to the Country has hit our small screens again and today’s episode was set in the beautiful Devon countryside. Hosted by Nicki Chapman, the show introduced viewers to house hunter Maria from Bracknell in Berkshire, joined by friend of 32 years Linda and searching for the perfect countryside home.

With a budget of £ 675,000 Maria told Nicki her ideal home would be in a rural setting with overlooking views. She also asked for three bedrooms, an annex, open plan space and a one to two acre garden. Although despite viewing two Devon properties, one in East Worlington and another in Fremington, which near enough delivered on all of those requirements, Nicki felt her heart belonged in the last surprise home she was shown in Launcells, Cornwall.

Made out of locally quarried stone, the property consists of a modern kitchen, utility, three double bedrooms and a mezzanine.

On approaching the house, host Nikki said “Have we left the best till last I wonder?” whilst Maria replied: “Just looking at the views, it’s amazing!”

“I love the stone, I think it’s earthy,” she added. “I love the fact it’s on its own.”

However the excitement didn’t stop there as on entering the house, Maria said: “That’s what I wanted.

“Looking out onto views all round its absolutely breath-taking.”

Maria added: “It just feels like home”. But the stunning property does come at a price, with offers over £ 675,000 – which is more than Maria’s budget.

However that didn’t seem to stop her from wanting it more than the initial Devon-based properties she viewed as Maria explained: “The first contender was the first one which I absolutely loved and I thought that was possibly it but no, there’s another one. “

Referring to the Cornwall property she said: “Yeah so it’s the mystery house. When we saw that house with the beautiful stonework and even better surprise when we walked through that door and saw that vista of 360 degree view, it just felt like home to be honest. “
